Hi, I’m Dulcinea Alex Pitagora (they/them) and I’m the founder of Manhattan Alternative. I have a Master of Arts (MA) in Psychology from the New School for Social Research, a Master of Social Work (MSW) from New York University, and a Master of Education (MEd) and Doctoral degree (PhD) in clinical sexology from Widener University; and I’m an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist (CST). I’ve completed EMDRIA-approved EMDR Basic Training through the Parnell Institute, which specializes in Attachment-Focused EMDR. I have a psychotherapy practice in New York City that includes individual, couples/multi-partner relationship, and poly/leather family therapy. My practice is holistic and integrative, person-centered and strengths-based, focuses on self-determination and empowerment, and is informed by personal involvement in the kink/BDSM, poly/CNM, queer/non-straight, trans/GNC, and sex work communities. As a white anti-racist therapist, I create space for conversations that de/reconstruct whiteness, and cultivate positive racial and intersectional identities. I teach sexual health at New York University, and have published articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented at conferences on the topics of alternative sexuality and gender diversity. I also conducts research, lectures, and seminars pertaining to these communities; and is a co-organizer of the AltSex NYC Conference and the Sexuality Speaker Series.
