April Martin, Ph.D., has been in the private practice of psychotherapy with individuals and couples for 40 years. She did both her doctoral and postdoctoral work at NYU. In addition, she has been trained in EMDR therapy, Somatic Experiencing, Hypnosis, mindfulness, and other mind/body interventions. As a pioneer in advocating for nontraditional sexualities and alternative family constellations, she has written scores of articles and book chapters in both academic and mainstream publications, and her book, The Lesbian and Gay Parenting Handbook, (1993, HarperCollins), was a groundbreaking work that got attention on the Oprah Winfrey Show among many other television and radio venues.
